The PRAYER FORUM
In the fall of 2002, leaders from various prayer groups and initiatives that pray for
Berlin, or a specific area of the city started meeting as part of the initiative
Gemeinsam für Berlin. Overtime, these regular meetings evolved into what is now
the PRAYER FORUM.
Members of the original group have continued this calling by their dedication to
walking with one another through various seasons via their involvement in the
Goals and Tasks
“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare, you will find your welfare.” (Jer. 29:7)
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” (1 Tim. 2:1-2)
The PRAYER FORUM desires to promote prayer for all social areas and groups in
this city. It seeks to bring sources of prayer together and mobilize them to reach
goals beyond the walls of the church and in turn serve the expansion of the
Kingdom of God in Berlin.
The PRAYER FORUM seeks God’s will for the body of Christ and our city, and a
common vision for its implementation. This is done through listening prayer at the
monthly Forum meetings and through sharing with one another.
Currently, these goals and objectives are pursued through:
The PRAYER FORUM is eager to be connected with as many prayer groups as possible and offers opportunities of getting to know each other, learning new information, sharing, encouragement, and participating in prayer activities together. We identify prayer groups in churches either with or without a migration background, in neighborhoods and in specific social groups such as students, politicians, the business world, families, or education. Unity amongst Christians – as it is a promise of God’s – is something we desire to encourage.
2. Promotion, Support
The PRAYER FORUM promotes existing prayer initiatives by taking up their cause,
assisting with promotion (see point 4), and providing them with encouragement and
inspiration. Newly emerging prayer initiatives are offered a platform of collaboration
by the Forum and benefit from its existing resources and contacts.
Members of the PRAYER FORUM bring experience in the form of hosting prayer
training courses both within the church and in other Christian initiatives. The members themselves make their knowledge available to the whole body of Christ and can be invited. In addition, the PRAYER FORUM also offers its own training courses as part of GfB.
4. Collection of Prayer Requests, Informing Those Who are Praying
The PRAYER FORUM collects and publishes prayer requests for the city of Berlin and
shares information from the individual prayer groups, as well as topics that come out
of time spent listening to God.
To provide information for those who are wanting to be praying for Berlin, a monthly prayer letter, Gebet für Berlin, is published in English and German and sent out per email. You can download the PDF file on our homepage. You can also subscribe to
the prayer mail here.
More prayer events and seminars are published under Events.
5. Prayer Outreach, Events
The PRAYER FORUM, in conjunction with other groups and churches, organizes citywide prayer meetings such as EINS, Einklang, or other large events. In addition to that, prayer campaigns are organized on special occasions that either have a Berlin-wide relevance or involve an increased potential for violence. Such campaigns often
take place on site, i.e. on the streets and plazas, such as May Day, CSD, March for Life, etc.
